I first witnessed love when I was kid; it’s from the two people I call “Mom and Dad”. If I were to pick my favorite superheroes, I will pick my parents. Why? Because first, they raised me wonderfully; second, is because they were there for each other through all the rough times.

Mom, Dad, One by one each year flew by since you both said “I DO”.. 31 years of memories shared by the two of you is awesome. Some tearful times along life’s way and some joys that can’t be measured. Your marriage is made in heaven and brings a life of happiness.

Thank you for showing us a positive attitude and always remind us to keep the promise that we've said on our wedding day! You’re our inspiration!

Happy 31st wedding anniversary! Love you both!

Before I got married, I promised myself to be a good, loving and caring wife to my husband, and because of that I want to start our week right. I prepared something special for him, I cooked Beef Stew for our lunch today and I’m proud to say that the taste is awesome! (nagbuhat ba naman ng sariling upuan..hihi) But I swear it’s perfect.

I got this recipe from my favorite blogger,panlasangpinoy.com. This dish needs a lot of patience to balance the taste of all the ingredients. Beef Stew is one of my favorite Filipino dishes. I prepared another dish last week, and it’s called “Patatim”. According to my research, I found out that the word “Pata” is the tagalog word for pork hock and "tim" is a very old Chinese recipe that is very popular in Chinese restaurants all over the Philippines.

Like the Smothered Pork Chop, this dish is fairly easy. I know most of people do not cook this at home because of the time involved in cooking. But for me, I don’t mind long cooking.. Thanks to pressure cooker it helps me a lot and gives me some free time to do something else.

Ingredients:

·         ½ kilo pork hock cut
·         3 large cloves garlic, roughly crushed
·         2 tbspn sugar
·         2 cups pineapple juice (canned)
·         1/4 cup soy sauce
·         3 cups water
·         1 bay leaf
·         good pinch of ground pepper

Procedures:

1.       Rinse the pieces of pork hock.  Trim stray hairs if there’s any.
2.       Drain and place in a pressure cooker.  Add 4 cups of water; let it boil for 10 minutes.
3.       Once done, remove from pressure cooker and place in saucepan.
4.       Add in crushed garlic, sugar, pepper and soy sauce.
5.       Put in the pineapple juice, water and bay leaf.

6.       Bring to boil and lower heat till you achieve simmering stage (very gentle boil), skim the surface
every now and then, till all the froth scum are gone.
7.       Cook till the broth is just touching the base of the saucepan.
8.       Stir pork hock pieces until they’re all well covered with the sticky sauce. Remove from stove.

Recipes for this dish also vary so I used a combination of recipes adjusted to my taste.

Note:

As you can see, my finished product presentation has been revived and because of that, I want to say thank you for the cooking shows (both GMA7 and ABS CBN) and food websites (food blogs at FTF). Honestly, I do not cook like a professional chef, but I hope they appreciate the looks, the story and the recipes behind every dish I prepared.

I know it may not look appealing visually, but I swear the dish is very appetizing. My husband loves the combination of creamy sauce with Pork Chops is amazing plus the sautéed onions and garlic blends with the cream. Try this recipe and you will agree to me that this dish is superb!

After our staycation at Berjaya Hotel, we decided to take some rest at home for our next activity on my birthday. Hubby reserved our seats for “One More Try” movie at Greenbelt 3, while I chose to nap for a while. Haha. Syempre birthday ko kaya need ng beauty rest..

Fast forward….

After our movie date, we took our dinner at Ma Maison located at Greenbelt 2 which serve Japanese Western food and where the expensive restaurant lies. Actually, this is not our 1st option but since it’s my birthday I decided to dine at this place and yes, it was our first time to try this restaurant.

The staffs were so accommodating and polite. The place was pretty nice, it has cozy and rustic laid-back ambiance that was very homey, romantic and inviting. I love the remarkable and eye-catching interiors; I really feel the intimacy of the place because of the restaurant’s set-up. (Too bad I only took one picture. Waaahhh)

We took our time browsing through the menu and deciding what we should try out first. But before that, I asked one staff if there are any discounts or promo for birthday celebrant (wala lang malay mo may discount. Hehe) I have no idea that the person who assist us is the Manager.. She told us that she will give me something after meal.. Wow! Excited much!

Hubby chose Ma Maison’s House Specialty Tonkatsu, Wafu – style pork cutlet covered with Nama Panko, fresh, crispy Japanese bread crumbs. Perfectly matched with Ma Maison homemade Tonkatsu sauce and served with Miso soup, side salad and Japanese rice. Just a piece of advice, eat while hot because it is definitely one of the best-tasting Tonkatsu in the country today. Promise! I love the shredded cabbage on the side, and a small scoop of fresh mashed potato, I must say that every ingredient on the whole set complement each other, which made the whole thing a complete package!

Ma Maison’s House Specialty Tonkatsu – Php 345.00

I was craving for some Chicken that night, so I go for Chicken Teriyaki Don - chargrilled boneless chicken slathered with yakitori sauce, topped with scrambled egg, shredded green onion leeks, spring onions, momi nori & Japanese chili. Served with Japanese rice.

Chicken Teriyaki Don Php 245.00

If you want to add miso soup and salad, you need to pay additional Php 55.00. For our drink, I chose Four Season Fruit Shake while Hubby go for Lemon Iced Tea.

Lemon Iced Tea Php 110.00 and Fresh Fruit Shake Php 135.00

After eating, the manager approached us and gave Frozen Green Tea for FREE! Yes! Free because I celebrate my birthday at Ma Maison. Wow! Thank you!

Frozen Green Tea

Frozen Green Tea "four-layered frozen dessert with egg meringue, green tea ice cream, custard cream and Graham crust". The green tea was just a bit too high but it was flavorful but eventually became nakakaumay. Just a tip, be sure to slice it down through the graham crust to enjoy the sweet green tea flavor of this cake. Yum Yum!

Overall, I really enjoyed our dinner; it’s really worth it to spend money for mouthwatering/ delicious dishes. So, if you happen to be around Greenbelt, has money to spare, go to Ma Maison. You will definitely enjoy every bite!

Happy Birthday to Me! ♥

*Sorry for the low quality photos. Since we are going to watch movie, we decided not to bring camera. We just used Hubby’s cellphone. ;)

After the very tiring, exhausting and struggling experience climbing Mt. Tapyas, Ate Steph told us that the last stop for the day was Maquinit Spring, about 20 minute tricycle ride from the town. It is a man-made (private) hot spring whose water streams from the nearby Dalara Mountain, an inactive volcano.

RN – Ate Steph, bakit sya tinawag na “Maquinit Spring”
Ate Steph – kc mainit sya.. (with a smile)
RN – Ah.. Okay, uu nga naman.. Hehe.

The ride to the spring is occasionally rough roads, I prayed that the tricycle would not break down, or else I will scream like a monster if that would happen. Haha.

There were tons of people when we arrived, good thing Ate Steph look for the best place to stay and put our things in safe.   The place was actually good.  It is nature on one of its finest.  Maquinit Hot Spring is quiet salty.  The springs from mountain is mixed with the seawater and so you get the dual therapeutic effects of saltwater and warmth. You can enjoy the view while relaxing your body and mind.

Before sinking, we opted to take some pictures. Thank you Ate Steph!

Now it’s time to test the hot springs, wohoo! It is really hot at first dip, but once you get used to the temperature it’s really enjoyable and relaxing.  I remember my husband complaining that I should go with him at his first dip, ayaw ko nga.. naka experience na sya ng hot springs sa Japan eh.. Haha.

It was a relief to arrive and dip my whole body in warm spring water. The water was so refreshing after a hard day’s climb to Mt.Tapyas. As per Ate Steph, the water’s temperature ranges from 38-40 degrees. Wow! Hubby and I enjoy one portion of the pool where we sit under a small waterfall and the water falls just right above our shoulder. Wow! Tangal lahat ng lamig namin sa balikat. Amazing!

 Maquinit Hot Spring

Mangroves

Everyone enjoyed dipping in the water, it really soothed my tire and achy muscles brought by our treak to Mt. Tapyas. The water is really therapeutic. After 1.5 hours, we decided to go back to Darayonan to get some rest and of course, we are just so hungry.

Hot Spring at Night

Overall, Maquinit Hotspring is the best hot spring I've ever been to.
